Importance of the sea
The ocean provides livelihoods to 3 billion people, nearly 50 percent of the entire global population. Marine fisheries provide 57 million jobs.
The blue economy is a strong industry that allows many to make their living and provide for their families.cv
Without the ocean we would not be able to have water. Most water comes from the sea/ocean, and salt comes from the ocean as well.
The concentration of salt in seawater (its salinity) is about 35 parts per thousand; in other words, about 3.5% of the weight of seawater comes from the dissolved salts.
The ocean sustains us. It provides oxygen, food and medicine and is a source of recreation, discovery, identity and culture. More than 3 billion people rely on food from the ocean as a source of protein and nutrition.
Oceans feed us, regulate our health and generate most of the oxygen we breathe.

The ocean is where our marine life is set out, if we do not have them, our planet will definitely not be complete. Water is always vital to our health. It plays a key role in many of our body’s functions, including bringing nutrients to cells, getting rid of wastes, protecting joints and organs, and maintaining body temperature. Water should be an almost go-to beverage. It regulates rainfall and droughts, holds 97% of our planet’s water, and absorbs CO2, helping keep the carbon cycle in balance. From food to jobs, it’s a lifeline for billions of people, too. But the ocean is also a beautiful natural environment with an invaluable recreational role to play.It not only functions as the lungs of the planet, providing us with the air we breathe, but also as the world’s largest carbon sink helping to combat the negative impacts of climate change.
Ocean salt primarily comes from rocks on land and openings in the seafloor. Salt in the ocean comes from two sources. Run off from the land and openings in the seafloor. Rocks on land are the major source of salts dissolved in seawater. Rainwater that falls on land is slightly acidic, so it erodes rocks.
The ocean affects us all in positive ways, no matter if you live on the coastline or in the desert. It provides climate regulation, food, jobs, livelihoods, and economic progress. Thus, we must work together to protect and save the ocean for the sake of our future survival on this planet. The ocean is blue because water absorbs colors in the red part of the light spectrum. Like a filter, this leaves behind colors in the blue part of the light spectrum for us to see. The ocean may also take on green, red, or other hues as light bounces off of floating sediments and particles in the water. A big part of the problem: pollution. So how does trash get into the ocean? It’s dumped, pumped, spilled, leaked and even washed out with our laundry. Each year, we expose the world’s waterways to an increasing variety of pollutants — plastic debris, chemical runoff, crude oil and more. The air we breathe: the ocean produces over half of the world’s oxygen and absorbs 50 times more carbon dioxide than our atmosphere. Climate regulation: covering 70% of the Earth’s surface, the ocean transports heat from the equator to the poles, regulating our climate and weather patterns. We have dark plastic. Like the astronomers who have dark matter and dark energy, we oceanographers, we don’t have an idea where most of the plastic in our ocean is. We’ve lost it.” Researchers like van Sebille want to know where the plastic is going so they can better understand its effects on marine life
